Governor Okowa to settle the rift between Governor Wike and Dickson

NCDMB donates a modular science laboratory to 2 Bayelsa schools

igeria Newspape By Titus Innocent The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) during the week donated a modular science laboratory to Model Government Secondary School, Twon Brass and an Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre to Government Secondary School Okpoama, both in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. The ICT centre was commissioned by the minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva. The facility has two air-conditioned rooms, each fully equipped with 31 computers linked to the internet, projector and printer. The centre also has an administrative office, instructor’s office, conference hall and a stand-by generator. PHEDC asks for suspension of hostilities by the IYC on power outage

By Titus Innocent The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) has sought an amicable resolution of the rift between Ijaw Youths Council and the company which resulted in shutdown of its operations and subsequent blackout last Monday in Bayelsa State. The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) had on Monday, December 23, besieged the office of PHEDC in Yenagoa, the state capital, drove away staff and grounded its operations over inadequate power supply in the state. By Titus Innocent  Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike said that governor Serieke Dickson should be held responsible for the defeat of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Bayelsa state governorship election. Governor Wike made the claim while reacting to the allegation made by Dickson that he (Wike) was responsible for PDP’s defeat in the state in a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday. He said that the actions of governor Dickson preparatory to the election added to the defeat .  Wike accused the governor of intimidating some of the candidates that wanted to contest for Senate and House of Representatives by asking them to withdraw from the race. Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, Deputy Governor elect of Bayelsa State. Hon. Egain in a press statement issued in his Yenagoa resident congratulated the Deputy Governor elect and the APC family in the State for the court victory. Sex workers in Yenagoa jubilates; sex work is no longer a crime in the country

By Titus Innocent A federal high court in Abuja has condemned the arrest of women alleged to be sex workers in Abuja by law enforcement agents. Binta Nyako, the judge, on Wednesday said security agents violated the rights of the women as enshrined in section 37 of the constitution when they broke into their homes to arrest them. She also ruled that sex work is not a crime. Babatunde Jacob, a counsel working with Lawyers Alert, a non-governmental organisation, had instituted a fundamental human rights enforcement suit on behalf of the arrested women. The Nigeria police, the army, ministry of the federal capital territory (FCT), and the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) were the respondents in the suit. The judge said: “I find and hold that the breaking in and arrest of the applicants by the respondents is an infringement of the applicants’ right to privacy as guaranteed by the constitution.” “The law has laid down process and procedure for effective arrest....
